The Llano County CourtHouse and Jail are situated inside the former Llano county jail and building that once stood in downtown Llano, Texas. The former jail building was originally constructed in 1857 and has served many generations of residents of Llano, Texas, throughout its history. Today, the former courthouse still stands as it is considered a historical landmark by the City of Llano. The courthouse and jail were constructed separately, but both added to the national register of historic places in Texas, in December of 1977 as one unit. The Llano County CourtHouse and Jail were purchased in January of 1992 by the City of Llano. The purchase price was $8.5 million. The City of Llano took on the responsibility of replacing all existing buildings in its historic center, including the courthouse and jail, as well as a historic cemetery. The City of Llano and the county made improvements to the courthouse and jail, which were overseen by a certified architect. The new courthouse was designed to provide the public with a modern design and the highest level of safety and security. Many of the amenities offered within the courthouse today have not been previously available, including a security officer on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, as well as a public phone within the courtroom itself.
